Are there marked signs that a woman experiences during pregnancy that may indicate pregnancy with a boy? (I mean aside from carrying out medical investigations).
It is what we aim to find out from this post. There are beliefs that if a woman displays some peculiar pregnancy symptoms, she is pregnant with a boy.
Another question women ask is this: Are you more tired when pregnant with a boy? Again, it is good to know as it may be an indicator of a boy’s pregnancy.
The answer is no. Since women’s body differs and every pregnancy is unique, we find out that a woman’s tiredness in pregnancy will depend on the unique nature of her pregnancy, not necessarily the gender of the baby she expects.

Let’s see some signs that may indicate you are pregnant with a boy:
- Reduced morning sickness
- Increased cravings for spicy or salty foods.
- A more darkened areola.
- An increased pregnancy glow.
- The hair grows thicker and fuller.
- Frequent headaches.
- Broadened nose.
- Leg hair grows more.
- Frequent eating
- Cravings for proteinous foods.
Below let’s discuss 10 of these signs.
1. A Marked Pregnancy Glow

This pregnancy symptom is not always experienced by every woman, though it is one I experienced. When I was pregnant with my boy, my skin always glowed, and every time, people commented on how beautiful I looked and that I was rocking my pregnancy so well.
I didn’t use any special creams or moisturizers. I ditched most of my skincare products during my first trimester because of smell aversion, but still, the glow was noticeable.
If you have a noticeable pregnancy glow in your pregnancy, it may just be a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. This says that girls steal their mother’s beauty, but boys give their mothers beauty during pregnancy.
People say that when a woman glows in pregnancy, it is because she’s pregnant with a boy. Well, there isn’t any scientific proof about this.
But, if you have clear and glowing skin with no acne as a pregnancy side-effect (check out more pregnancy symptoms and side effects on the post-pregnancy side effects), or your skin does not look faded and dull, chances are that you will deliver a boy child. You may just want to take the opportunity and buy some boy’s stuff when shopping for the baby (just kidding).
2. Craving Spicy Food

Craving is a marked pregnancy symptom that many women experience. This moment you could crave for one thing and avoid eating the food you longed for the next moment. When I was pregnant with my baby, I had been craving fried rice for days.
When I finally prepared it, I lost all my appetite and ended up not eating the food. Pregnancy can also make you crave some weird things, like some women crave chalk (this condition is called pica) and some unusual foods they do not eat regularly.
That being said, you should utilize this period of cravings to try out new and different varieties of foods. It is going to help you eat healthily and make your baby grow well. However, there are some foods to be avoided during pregnancy.
These foods can put some health risks to you and especially the growing fetus. Back to our point on cravings, you may ask, how do cravings determine if you are pregnant with a boy? It seems pregnant women with boys crave spicy and salty food more than other foods.
It seems in pregnancy with a boy, women have a salty tooth, and in pregnancy with a girl, women have a sweet tooth. Well, who knows? It may be true because I was pregnant with my son; I loved eating spicy and savory food more than sweets.
I loved spiced chicken, I loved anything flavored with curry, and if it was a bit peppery, I enjoyed it too, and it’s funny that these were some of the food that I didn’t really appreciate before pregnancy.
In contrast, there are no accurate or conclusive data to determine if cravings for salty food are a sign that you are pregnant with a boy, but if you find out you love more chips, spiced chicken, salted popcorn, then you may be pregnant with a boy in your case who knows.
However, this isn’t a certainty. To be sure, take a pregnancy gender reveal test. Medics have said that cravings are due to change in nutritional needs by the body and basically the way the body gets the nutrients needed.
3. A Decreased Heart Rate

Once you have registered for prenatal appointments during pregnancy, you will always go for routine checkups, sometimes every month, depending on the nature of your pregnancy.
Nurses or doctors do the checkups. One test done during a checkup is to measure the baby’s heart rate using a Doppler instrument. Some can also use a stethoscope.
They also carry out other tests like blood pressure, weight, feeling the baby’s position, etc. Using a Doppler, you can get a picture of what is happening in vitro, and you may be able to hear the heartbeat of your baby.
The number of heartbeats per minute is around 140. There are claims that if the heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, then you should be expecting a girl child. It means that a decreased heart rate is usually a sign you are pregnant with a boy. But there is no scientific backing behind this.
The fetal diagnosis and therapy study has said that there is no meaningful difference between the heart rate of a boy and a girl in early pregnancy.
I do not know how this sign that a lowered heart rate as a sign that you are pregnant with a boy came about; what I do know is that it is popular among people as a sign of boy pregnancy.
There must definitely have been women who have had lowered heart rate for their boy’s pregnancy and higher for their girl’s pregnancy or otherwise.
Probably, more research has to be done in this area. Well, one thing is sure women body differs, and since each pregnancy is unique, the signs experienced will vary.
4. Temperament

I noticed that when I was pregnant with my son that I became very temperamental. I would spark at any little thing. I could look you in the eyes and tell you what I felt, and the next moment burst into tears.
I also wasn’t impressed by so many things as I used to be. I used to be so soft sensed. Then, I found it hard to say what I felt because I didn’t want to hurt a person’s feelings, and I was always pleased with whatever you did; even if it was not good, the most important thing was that you made an effort.
But pregnancy made me different. It made me more bold and open about my feelings and especially gave constructive criticisms. My point here is that pregnancy can cause women to be temperamental and have changing moods.
I have seen changes in temperament in different women, and I believe that in the pregnancy with a boy, the difference in temperament is more intense.
However, the scientific facts are what counts, and no valid evidence shows this. It could be the testosterone giving you an extra edge or just your pregnancy hormones; who knows.
If you find that you can no longer tolerate so many things and have a no-nonsense attitude, well, keep your fingers crossed and wait till your pregnancy is older for an accurate test.
5. A Full Head Of Hair

I had a longer, fuller, thicker head than before, even after delivery as a bonus to my pregnancy. Too bad my poor hair care routine caused some postpartum hair loss (check out the post, how to reduce postpartum hair loss for tips to avoid postpartum hair loss or reduce it already experiencing it during pregnancy).
Having longer, fuller hair may be a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. Similar to having a pregnancy glow and smoother skin during pregnancy, your hair can grow into long lustrous locks that could be the envy of everyone around.
Have you experienced this in your pregnancy, or have you seen anyone that has? It is a widespread belief that boys make their mothers look more beautiful and have a rich, thick, fuller head of hair in the head and other parts of the body.
As you enjoy styling your gorgeous mane, expect to shave other parts of the body like the legs and armpit, your pubic regularly as well because they will grow very fast too.
What does science say about this? There is no valid evidence that increasing hair growth in pregnancy is a sign that you are pregnant with a boy.
Since pregnancy involves a lot of psychological changes happening, there are so many things one should expect. Medics believe that a spike in the different hormones in the body could be what causes the increased hair growth.
Also, during pregnancy, the blood volume increases, which stimulates the hair follicles, causing hair growth. You may want to ask then why do some women’s hair looks lump and dull? Well, each pregnancy varies from woman to woman, and no two pregnancies are the same.
6. The Pregnancy Line Is An Indicator

The Linea nigra could also be an indicator or a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. The Linea nigra is a vertical line that lines the baby bum.
It usually runs from the belly button downwards to the pubic area and upwards to the upper abdomen, sometimes towards the ribs.
The line begins to be more visible at about the 5th week of pregnancy, and it is usually more pronounced in women with darker skin tones. The appearance of this line is due to changing hormone levels, especially the hormone estrogen and melanocyte-stimulating hormone.
There are chances that pregnancy with a boy child is what makes this line more evident as the line is always at the belly, and the pregnancy hormones make it darker.
Can the Linea nigra be determinant of the gender of a baby or a sign that you are pregnant with a boy? Maybe yes, but it isn’t scientifically proven.
However, I will confirm that I had his vertical line in my belly bump when I was pregnant. I felt it was completely normal. Some say that if the line reaches up to the ribs (which it did in my pregnancy) or if the line is broken, then you should expect a “blue jet,” and if the line stops at the lower bump, you should expect a “pink jet.” It may just be true, it may be not, but scientifically we have no facts about this.
7. Increased Appetite

There is a theory that believes that a sign that you are pregnant with a boy is that you can eat more food, and I entirely believe this because I ate so much, more than I used to eat before my pregnancy.
I was always hungry. Eating almost every two hours, and I always had a stash of snacks in my bag. Though I ate very well in pregnancy, I was still able to maintain an ideal weight during pregnancy (read the post on how to have a belly-only pregnancy to find tips on how you can keep the ideal weight during pregnancy).
This bag was a lifesaver. It contained all the pregnancy essentials like chewable, bottles of essential oils to quell nausea, my favorite drink (sprite), water, etc.
You can also try this as a hack. Get a bag big enough to carry all your essentials like a small note, prenatal vitamins, snacks to help you eat well during pregnancy (check the post 21 pregnancy hacks for more hacks that will help you have a smoother and easier pregnancy).
If you have increased appetite during pregnancy, it may be a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. In pregnancy, expect to eat more than before, but when you eat non-stop, it is suspected to be a boy’s pregnancy.
I describe this increased appetite as eating like a glutton. Then when I had not eaten for few hours, it was like tiny ants moving inside my belly.
From my observation, many women who eat so much in pregnancy always have boy babies, and medics say that this may be true—however no concrete facts to back this up. Probably more studies should be done to get more information. Or possibly it is just about different hormones in women.
8. Cold Feet

If you always experience colds at your feet in pregnancy, it may be a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. How valid is this? Is cold feet a sign that you are pregnant with a boy? I can’t really say.
It is one of the popular boy’s pregnancy myths flying around, but who knows? It might just be true. Doctors believe that cold feet, cold feet as a sign that you are pregnant with a boy, don’t stand.
Fluctuations and temperature changes do occur a lot in pregnancy because of the varying hormonal changes. The changes in body temperature experienced in pregnancy are also because of the numerous processes taking place in the body.
My first trimester was when I felt very cold, and later in my late pregnancy, I felt hot more often. A pregnant woman can feel very hot and sip ice-cold drinks when everyone is hard.
Or, they can feel so cold when everyone feels very hot. This happened to me a lot in pregnancy. I can’t say for sure that having cold feet indicate if you are pregnant with a baby boy, a sign of boy pregnancy for another woman, but do not altogether rule this out.
9. The Belly-Bomb Appears To Grow Towards The Bottom

This is usually called “carrying low.” Even before the belly bump-starts descending late in the third trimester, some women’s tummy protrudes towards the bottom.
It is a belief that this is a sign that you are pregnant with a boy. There are no scientific facts that validate this, and doctors believe that women can have a lower tummy and that gender does not necessarily determine it.
What is responsible for a low-lying baby bump even before the dropping stage are: the fetal position (that is, how the baby is positioned in the uterus.
There are different positioning of the baby like the: breech, transverse, longitudinal, cephalic, oblique. A position like a breech can make the baby bump extend downwards.
Also, the shape of the woman’s uterus determines how the baby bump would grow. Other factors like the muscles of the abdomen and the number of babies a woman has had, and the woman’s body type also determine the shape of the baby bump.
I do not think it is possible to look at a baby bump and say it’s a boy or a girl, so I believe this is more like an old wives tale or a lucky guess.
10. An Itching Belly Bump

It is pretty normal to have itching in the body during pregnancy. Some probable causes for this are the changing hormonal levels, increased body temperature, the heat or high temperature of the environment, sometimes weight gain, and stretch marks, mostly in the belly bump.
A Stretch mark is likely to occur because as the girth of the belly increases, the collagen fibers would be stretched underneath the skin. It may lose its elasticity and form silver or reddish, Or purplish lines in the skin.
One sign that the skin is stretching is that you feel the constant urge to scratch your belly. Some women experience this as a mild feeling, others as intense. Mine was intense, especially late in my pregnancy.
I always felt the need to rub or scratch my belly bump. I was worried about having stretch marks, so I used coconut oil and Shea butter, which worked wonders for me.
Presently I barely have any stretch mark in my belly. You can some more stretch mark remedies on the post tips on how to prevent stretch marks.
Does an itching belly bump mean that you are pregnant with a boy? I can’t say for sure, as there is no scientific proof that indicates such.
In my pregnancy, I did have intense itching, and rubbing oils helped a bit. You may want to see your doctor if the itching becomes intense after trying different home remedies.
The Surest Ways To Know If You Are Pregnant With A Boy

These signs listed above aren’t accurate. There may be some elements of truth in them, but most are based on hearsay. Below are sure ways to determine if you are pregnant with a boy or not.
- A non-invasive prenatal testing NIPT. This test can be done around it is the 10th week of pregnancy. The purpose is to screen for genes. In addition, with the test, you may be able to determine the gender of your baby. 2Nuchal Translucency Scan (NT). At around the 12th week of pregnancy, this test can be combined with the NIPT scan. The NT is more like a thorough ultrasound. It is used to screen for Down syndrome markers, trisomy 13 and 18, and chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus. You may get a chance to determine your baby’s gender from an NT scan.
- An ultrasound. It is the most common way to know if you are pregnant with a baby boy though you have to wait till around the 18th and 22nd week before the results are accurate. You can also see a clear picture of your little munchkin here. You’ll be able to determine if it’s a boy or not.
- A Free Cell DNA test. The test is done at about the 9th week of pregnancy. To check for Down Syndrome or other abnormalities in the baby. As a bonus, you can also check for the baby’s gender.
